Highland Attempting To Throw Box Elder Off On The Kickoff

On a cold rainy Thursday night in Brigham City Utah, the Highland Rams beat out the Box Elder Bees for a hard fought 38-28 point victory.  In the Rams second region game of the season, and first game with the newly earned “Ram Horns,” Highland’s backfield delivered over and over again for a solid win to put the Rams at 2-0 in region play.  The scoring was opened by an early field goal by the Rams, and then was followed up with all rushing TDs, split between QB James Pembroke, RB David Nonu and RB Talo Latu.

After scoring a quick 10 points in the first quarter through a Pembroke TD, the Rams seemed to fall into a sort of momentum slump.  Penalties and turnovers are two areas that hurt Highland throughout the game, and have been a consistent problem throughout the season so far.

However after a slow end to the first quarter where Box Elder looked extremely dangerous and scored a TD of their own, Highland seemed to gather themselves.  Pembroke threw a deep pass to receiver Ryan Lambson which was capitalized on by David Nonu shortly after.  Pembroke added another rushing TD of his own to end the first half 24-14 for the Rams.

In the second half the Highland backfield pounded the Box Elder defense.  Carry after carry wore down the clock and also the personnel for Box Elder.  Latu added another rushing TD in the third quarter, followed by another Nonu TD in the fourth.  The diversity in Rams’ backfield was really on display tonight with carries by Latu, Nonu, Pembroke, Jake Boren, and Andrew Parkin.

Highland sealed up the game after the recovery of an attempted onside kick by Box Elder late in the fourth quarter, and a huge sack by Parkin on a big third down play by the Bees.  Parkin had a solid game on both sides of the ball, with some big defensive plays and big rushes of his own.  Lambson also had a nice contribution for the Rams with five catches for 127 yards, and two key big gains in the second and third quarters.

The Rams now turn their attention to Provo for a middle of the season non-region game.  That game will be played at Highland on Friday, September 8th.
