Lady Rams Suffer Devastating Loss Against Bountiful Braves

The Lady Rams went out onto the court with a lot of energy tonight as they began their last home game of the season. They took a small lead within the first couple of minutes by making clean passes and using their speed to their advantage.

Tonight marked the first appearance of the season of senior Kylee Dennison, who was out because of an ACL tear. She only played during the first quarter to avoid reinjuring her leg, but the excitement that she brought her team was visible on the court, and she will certainly be an asset as they approach the State tournament.

Although the Lady Rams played well, the Bountiful Braves fought back to take the lead by the end of the first quarter with a score of 8-12. This back-and-forth trend continued throughout the rest of the nail-biting game, with both teams playing aggressively and skillfully.

The Lady Rams had possession of the ball more often than the Braves, however their downfall came in the form of missed shots and failed rebounds. At halftime, the Braves were up 13-16. By third quarter, the Lady Rams had taken the lead by two points, but had racked up 9 fouls by fourth-quarter, giving the Braves several free throws that ultimately put them in the lead by the end in a low-scoring game of 32-34.

This devastating loss moves the Lady Rams from first in region to second as they move into State next week. However, they certainly have a chance at the State title if they can maintain their cohesive team spirit, aggressive defense, and make a higher volume of the shots that they take. Though the loss was disappointing, captain Alex Debow believes that it offers them some lessons that they can take with them into the tournament.

“Going into State is going to be a tougher fight than we expected,” Debow said. “We honestly just need to be focused on coming out with energy. We often start our games slow and need to figure out how to be more serious before the game so that we can be ready to get on the court and play…Teams that win state are the ones with the strongest mental games. So if we can do that, we can win.”

It will be challenging, but this year’s Lady Rams display a remarkable trust for one another both on and off the court. This team ethic will be their strength as they face the best teams in the state next week.
