The Rams tipped off their season this Wednesday December 3rd falling to the Viewmont Vikings with a score of 65-58. The Vikings had a big fourth quarter comeback to secure the road win. They were led by Senior Jake Walker who led the Vikings with 24 points including five three-pointers. Senior Brandon Warr led the Rams with 16 points.

Highland gained a six point advantage entering the fourth quarter but Viewmont’s late shooting and defense outscored the Rams 28-15 in the fourth quarter to get the win.

Highland fans have much to look forward to this year, the Rams played with heart and hustle but came up a little short on defense and missed shots hurt the rams down the stretch.

“We’ll always play hard, but it’s a matter of playing smart. Small things, especially defensively killed us in the fourth quarter,” Junior Rick Schmidt said.

The new offensive and defensive schemes seemed to work well but there is room for improvement for the Rams. A high paced defense lead to some easy transition buckets but players looked fatigued by the end of the game. Shots fell short for the Rams while the Vikings caught fire in the fourth quarter.

“We played hard but can play much better, We need to rebound the ball better,” Senior Spencer Divver said.

This game was the beginning of the Jim Boyce era and the new coach seemed pleased with his players effort but knows they can play better. The Rams have a tough preseason before entering an even tougher region schedule.

Highland looks to bounce off this loss quickly as they travel to Park City this coming Friday.
