Bright Future is in Store for the Lady Rams

The Lady Ram’s season came to a close this last Thursday with a 3-2 loss to Box Elder. Emma Nielsen and Emma Thornton both scored for the Rams in the losing effort.

The Rams finished the season with a 5-9-2 record (2-8-2 in Region play). Region 5 was one of the most competitive regions in the state and it came down to the final games to determine who would be in the playoffs. The Rams started region play with two ties against Ogden and Bountiful that they believed they should have won. In both of these games, the momentum was on their side for majority of the game.

They hit a rough patch after these two ties. Losing to Woods Cross, Bonneville, East, Box Elder, and Ogden consecutively. Scoring was an issue for the Rams the whole season, being shut out in five of their region games.

The team caught some fire close to the end of the season beating both Bountiful and Woods Cross. The final spot for the playoffs was still in reach going in to the final games of the season but Highland lost all three of these tough games, competing well in each one.

“We obviously wish we could have won more games and made the playoffs, but there are many things we can take away from this season,” Emma Nielsen said.

The future is bright for the Lady Rams though. They only lose three seniors and return all of their goal scorers. Captains and leading scorers Emma Nielsen and Emma Thornton will be back with a chip on their shoulder. Other key returners include Lily Olson, Sydney Hathaway, Kayla Greer, Annie Nielson, and goalie Kennedy Mcdonald. With another year of experience under their belt, this team can compete well in their region next year. Young players will need to step up and contribute both defensively and offensively.

“We have a lot of young talent in our program and we will need them to step up next year if we want to make the playoffs and compete in our region,” Nielsen said.

There is a strong sophomore and freshman class that contributed to the varsity team this year. There were many opportunities for these underclassmen to play and gain experience, and with another offseason full of hard work they will be ready to help out this years’ junior class.

Even though the results didn’t show up on the scoreboard, the rams have many things to be proud of. A bright future is in store after a season of disappointment.
