Rams Dominate the Wildcats
October 1, 2016
Highland football set the tone early in the game against the Woodscross Wildcats last night. Ramming the ball through the Wildcats’ defense, the Rams scored their first touchdown only minutes into the game with a two-yard run from Senior, Lilo Clark.
Only minutes later, the Rams put up a 14-0 score with a 30-yard run by Junior, Trayton Keyes, ending their first quarter on a high note.
“Our offense did really well starting off the game,” Clark said. “We drove it down the field and set the tone right away.”
The Rams went into the second quarter confident in their 14-0 score, determined to keep the lead. However, once the clock began, the Wildcat’s offense got through Highland’s defense and made it to the end line in the first ten seconds, putting the score at 14-7 for the Rams.
The Rams were not going to let this small hiccup get in the way of their focus. They held strong and dominated through the rest of the quarter. With eight minutes left in the quarter, the Rams scored again, putting them up 21-7. Two minutes later, another one, 28-7. Finally, in the last ten seconds, another one. 35-7. Quarterback James Pembroke threw the ball to Junior, Elijah Shelton, shocking the crowd with a one-handed-catch, ending the first half of the game.
After halftime, the Rams continued to keep their lead, not letting the Wildcats through their defense again. In the ninth minute of the third quarter, Keyes tore off a 90-yard touchdown and they ended the quarter with a score of 42-7.
Towards the end of the fourth quarter, the Rams took out all of their starters and then scored again in the last two minutes.
Highland’s offense and defense were both equally impressive in scoring and keeping their opponents from scoring.
“It was a great, unselfish team-win,” Clark said. “We were all playing for each other and with that mentality the scoreboard takes care of itself.”
The Rams will be playing again at Davis High next Friday at 7PM.
