The long journey to Park City high school was worth it for a good win for Highland’s boys basketball team tonight. When their skills seemed to be matched, the rams stepped their game up to really show what’s in store for the upcoming season. With a final score of 48-33 the rams continue their 4-0 preseason streak. The team was determined to keep that streak going, and it was obvious as the game went on.

The game began slow with a steady 2-2 score lasting just a few minutes before the end of first quarter, when the rams began to take over. The team seemed to have bad luck when it came to making shots, but made up for it with impeccable defense. Sophomore point guard Liki Makaui was able to lead the team in the right direction with his quick steps while being accompanied by junior, Elijah Shelton boosting the rams score with 15 points in the game.

The miners began to catch up, and their skills began to match with the rams. The defensive and offensive skills between the two teams almost seemed identical. But the turn overs from the rams seemed to be unmatched. With half time getting closer and closer, the rams took the lead and weren’t going to let that change.

When second half began, there was no coming back for the miners. The rams offense began to pick up in the beginning of third quarter, and took off for the rest of the game. With a strong lead in the fourth quarter, the rams tough start was made up for with good rhythm and strong team work. They kept a good hold on the ball and once the team began to get into the grove of the game they were hard to keep up with.

“Park City is a pretty physical team,” senior Charlie Gochnour says, “but we matched them in intensity and physicality which shoes that we are a tough team.”
