The Importance Of Spirit Week
February 10, 2017
Spirit week is something rams look forward to yearly. It’s a time when students can join together and grow more enthusiasm for Highland. School spirit is nearly vital, without it who would cheer on sports, who would play sports? Without school spirit, who would be motivated to work on making Highland a better place everyday?
Junior at Highland, and class officer Kai Mack recognizes the importance of spirit week and thinks it is an amazing opportunity for students to grow to love Highland more.
“I think that spirit week at Highland is an amazing opportunity for people who wouldn’t normally get out and participate to do exactly that,” Mack said.
Although, a long with spirit weeks comes the obligation of decorating the school. To do so, the student body needs to be ready to participate, and Highlands student body officers have been working extra hard this year to recruit students to helping officers prepare for spirit week.
Mack expresses gratitude for those who have helped out in the planning and preparing for spirit week. Along with acknowledging those who have already helped, Mack encourages all students to look forward to next weeks activities.
“[spirit week] brings unity and a chance to really just have fun with your classmates,” Mack said.
This years spirit week is especially important for students to take apart in, because of highlands efforts in raising enough money to send Rikki, our make a wish girl, to Disneyland. Spirit week gives students the chance to donate to and meet Rikki.
“Come out to the Spirit Bowl! Support Highland and our amazing wish kid Rikki! It’s an awesome chance to come out and get known by your school, and just like Principal Jenson always says, we have the best high school in the state,” Mack said.
As the student body officers encourage participation, hopefully students will learn to take a part of something at Highland. It is up to the students themselves to determine how much school spirit Highland has.
