Highland’s talented dance company has been hard at work these past few months in preparation for their concert “Delta” coming up on March 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th, and 13th. The company is excited for this year’s unique theme.

“I think this year all of the dances are a lot more creative than we’ve ever had before,” Katie Olsen, dance company officer and senior at Highland said.

“I’m excited because I think people are going to think it’s a lot more mature than our usual stuff, so I’m excited to see what people think about it,” Olsen said.

The theme for this year’s concert will allow the dancers to express themselves in a new, advanced and creative way. “Delta” means difference or change, and the Highland Dance Company looks forward to trying to capture the meaning of delta through dance and movement.

By using math and science as their inspiration, the dancers hope to portray the changes that take place every day all around us.

“We’re kind of doing it off of math and science, it’s the change in something, so for example the change in your attitude, and it just shows your different changes and emotions,” Olsen said.

In the past years, Highland Dance Company has had very successful concerts and the public looks forward to them yearly.

“I really like this theme because it lets the concert be an open ended question,” Sydney Johnson, Junior at Highland said.

“Each dance gets to portray and illustrate a change in our lives, or in the world around us. I think it’s really cool because there’s always something changing so there are so many diverse topics to dance about,” Johnson said.

The concerts theme is special because many will be able to relate to it. As people observe the changes in the world around them, people will be able to connect with the dances.

“I personally love the theme because I feel like everyone at some point has to face changes in life and go through times of confusion and resolution.” Annie Miner, Junior at Highland said.

The concert will most likely evoke emotion from its viewers, because change is something that happens all around us on a daily basis.

“I love how all the dances have such different feelings and movement yet are all based off this same theme. It’s so fun performing together and showing everyone how hard we’ve                   worked since November to put everything together.”

The Highland Dance company hopes many will come to support and take something from the show that they have put so much effort in.
