The Highland Rams had a matchup this week against the Lehi Pioneers. This game was a huge game for both teams, who ever won the game would be in the lead of region play. Then to add to that pressure it was senior night for Highland and their last regular season home game. The Rams ended up falling short with a final score of 40-21.

In the first quarter the Pioneers struck first with a long pass to go up 7-0. They made this drive a habit as the quarterback Cammon Cooper threw for 404 yards and six touchdowns. This drive didn’t phase Highland when they got the ball they responded with a long drive and a rushing touchdown from quarterback Cole Peterson. As the first quarter was nearing the end Lehi found the endzone one more time with a short pass. This left Highland down 14-7 heading into the second quarter.

Highland’s senior Trayton Keyes picked Cooper off in the second quarter which gave Highland the ball. Keys started the drive for them and ended it with a 2 yard rushing touchdown to tie the game up at 14-14. Each time Highland scored Lehi would come out with the same attack plan to throw the ball. This time it worked again ending in another touchdown from the Lehi offense. This left the door open for Highland but they couldn’t get the job done as Cole Peterson threw an interception to end their drive. This left time on the clock for Lehi and they marched down the field and scored on another Cooper throw. After missing the extra point they went into halftime up 27-14.

As Highland came out of the locker room they were stopped on their first drive, and then stopped Lehi on their drive. Highland then constructed a drive of over 70 yards of just rushing plays which ended with a long run by Peterson for the touchdown. This put them down just 21-27 to put them within striking distance. But on their next drive Lehi was unable to be stopped throwing for another touchdown to put them up 34-21. Highland tried to keep their heads in the game but do to lack of time and penalties that were called against Highland which totaled to be 16 in the game, they were unable to make a comeback. Lehi scored one last time in the fourth quarter and missing the extra point they went up 40-21.

Despite the Rams best efforts they could not keep up with the arm of Cooper. The Rams will try to look past this and get ready for next week’s match up with West, and the upcoming playoffs.
