Despite blinding snow and biting wind, protesters still gathered at Sugarhouse Park on March second to call for a ceasefire in Gaza, after Israel invaded last October following a Hamas attack on Israeli territory. According to Al Jazeera, there have been almost 31,500 Palestinian casualties and 1,200 Israeli casualties.
Several hundred people attended the rally from all walks of life as the weather turned from bad to worse. Waving Palestinian flags, carrying signs, and demanding a ceasefire; the protesters made their presence very known. They came to listen to people passionately decrying Israel’s invasion before marching across 13th East and blocking the street to the dismay of drivers attempting to get by. Organizers in neon-yellow vests formed a line with arms outstretched to block incoming traffic. After this, they marched onto an overpass and blocked off I-80 with the help of supporters in their cars blocking off the freeway before dispersing when law enforcement arrived.
This was coordinated for International Day of Action, where cities around the world hosted rallies in support of Palestine and calling for a ceasefire in Gaza.
