It was National Signing day this Wednesday February 4th. High School Student-athletes around the country signed to colleges that were interested in them.

Highland had three football players that signed to colleges. Thomas Pembroke and Alassane Niang both signed to The United States Military Academy at West Point and Brandon Jones signed to Snow College.

Niang and Pembroke were offered their scholarships on Monday and both can’t wait for the experiences that are to come in the near future. They will be expected to complete the basic training of the Army while playing football and going to school.

Jones is hoping to use Snow as a stepping stone towards playing for a Division- 1 college.

“I’m hoping Snow will help me take the next step in football and eventually I can play at a D-1 college,” Jones said.

Junior College is a common path for High School athletes as they try to pursue their dreams of playing Division-1 sports. Jones led Highland this year in receiving finishing with 17 receptions, 346 yards and four touchdowns.

Niang and Pembroke both feel grateful for the opportunity they have been given.

Pembroke finished the 2014 season with 37 tackles and also led Highland in rushing with 687 yards and also three TDs. Niang finished with 23 tackles and finished 2nd in receiving behind Jones with 21 catches for 297 yards and three TDs, he also returned two kickoffs for touchdowns.

“I’m happy with the love and appreciation that I have been getting throughout my career, I feel blessed,” Niang said.

Pembroke was a three year starter for the Rams and both Niang and Jones started the past two years. All three were key parts to the 2014 football team.

These three are all grateful for the time spent at Highland and especially the coaches that have helped them get to this point and reach their goals.
