Moeai fights to win the ball against Ogden

Soccer, basketball, track, volleyball, is there anything Breana Moeai hasn’t done?

Moeai moved to Salt Lake at the beginning of this school year from St. George, where she attended Pineview High School the past three years. She played volleyball up until eighth grade, when she then had to make a big decision between volleyball and soccer because they were beginning to interfere with each other. With the help and encouragement of her parents, she was able to make the choice.

“It took some thought but it wasn’t too hard for me to decide,” Moeai said. “I like physical sports more, so I chose soccer.”

At Pineview she continued balancing her time between both soccer and basketball, along with joining the track team during her freshman and sophomore year.

Moeai moved to Salt Lake just in time for her senior year to start. While this may be an intimidating and difficult transition for most people, especially for one’s last year of high school, she has made this adjustment with ease.

With the experience of playing soccer from the time she was five-years-old, Moeai has become a key player to the Highland Women’s Soccer team and has been playing center defender, alongside 4A honorable mention defender Kayla Greer since her first game with the team.

“She is really good at tackling and winning the ball first,” Greer said. “It really helps take the pressure off of Kennedy (the goalkeeper) and I when she’s in the game.”

The soccer team has welcomed her with open arms and benefitted greatly from her help in the defense. Moeai claims one of the biggest things she noticed when she joined both the soccer team and the basketball team is how much all of the teammates reach out to each other. She claims that to her, the teams feel more like a family here than they ever did in St. George.

“Everyone just loves each other,” Moeai said. “There’s no drama, and I’ve already bonded so much with my new teams.”

While Moeai is currently shining on the soccer field during the fall season, once winter rolls around all eyes will continue to be on her during the Highland Women’s Basketball season. She claims soccer is definitely one of her favorite hobbies, but basketball is something she would like to pursue in the future. She has already been looked at and contacted by colleges, which has built up her excitement to see what this next season has in store for her.

With a new, talented and fast-pace basketball team, Moeai has high expectations for this next basketball season and cannot wait to get started.
