Delta Shows a Change In Highland’s Dancers

As waves come crashing down they create a perpetual motion within their respective oceans, they crest. Capped with sea foam and containing the life of a thousand generations of animals, water is the single most celebrated, revered, and graceful thing on planet Earth.

However, the true show of mastery is being able to recreate such natural grace. If anything could compare to the fluidity and ever changing element that is water, it would be the stunning performance by the Highland Dance Company in their show Delta.

The way one judges a great film or work of an old master is not typical to that of judging a dance or set of dances. Good dancing is determined based on the focus of the dancer and how they allow their bodies to become an extension of their environment.

One of the talents present amongst the whole of Dance Company is harnessing that extension. In this performance, Delta means change. As such every dance performed represented a change, whether that be a change in dance styles, emotions or experiences.

The beauty of this particular performance was the interpretation of change that each individual audience member experienced. Parallel to that of changes in real life, it was received in different ways.

Even the dancers themselves brought to life this thought. Many dancers layered dancing styles and moved to different tempos, creating the ever coveted appearance of in fact being an on looker to an ocean of movement.

Yet still, the most enjoyable experience of watching these dances was the energy created. The very action of watching as art was created to beats ranging from soft to that of Beyonce, literally, was truly magical. It was inspiring to watch such a large group of folks working together and spreading those feelings to their audience. It was a show worthy of the ocean itself.
