In the classic Black vs White game the varsity squad took down JV in game one and the white team took the victory in game 2. Many players performed well in the relaxed environment that these games are played in.

Game one was played traditionally with the teams being split up by varsity and junior varsity. The JV team, headlined by junior Charlie Gochnour, held their ground through the first quarter and found themselves only down by one. However, once the varsity’s defense tightened up the points started to pile up as well.  The varsity team was led by the perimeter shooting of senior Brevin Elsholz and post-game from senior Rich Schmidt. Bringing the ball down this year at the helm will be third year starter Ryan Lambson.

In game two the teams were each distributed with a similar amount of varsity and JV players. The laid-back environment lead to not much defense or contesting which made it even more fun to watch. Players were taking three-point shots from two feet behind the line and behind the back passes were flying left and right. At one point, even the big man Palauni chucked up a deep ball and drained it, which was followed with a glare to the opposing bench. The white team, who eventually went on to win, were led by Jayden Palauni, Eian Brightwell, and Lambson. The black team’s highlighted players were Elsholz, Schmidt, and Gochnour.

“Our offensive game is going to be really good,” Brightwell said. “But the one thing we need to work on this year is our defense.”

This struggle on the defensive side was apparent today. It’s difficult to believe that the Rams will be able to keep up with other teams in the region if they have a hard time staying in front of the JV squad. As the team enters games that actually matter the defense will have to step it up to the level of the offensive playing.

With so much talent across different areas of the game it’s clear that the ability is there, the question is now, can they execute? The Rams will open up there season at home against Park City on December 1st.
