Rams Suffer Defeat At Hands Of Titans

Eliza Burnett, Staff Writer

Last Tuesday night, the Highland Rams fell to the Olympus Titans, 68-46. Brandon Jones, Brevin Elsholz, Spencer Divver, Ryan Lambson and Rick Schmidt started the game, excluding usual starters, seniors Brandon Warr and Max Wilson. From the beginning, the Titans dominated the court. By the end of the game, the Titans had scored a total of 33 points from three-pointers alone, while the Rams struggled to connect, only making three of their attempts beyond the arc. By the end of the first half, the Titans were up 39 to 15.

Olympus lead for the entirety of game, the score only even once, tied five-all in the beginning minutes. Highland, outscored in the first half, couldn’t make a comeback despite their higher energy following half time. Wilson believes the Rams didn’t come ready to compete.

“We didn’t come ready to play. We started off slow and got behind early. They were hitting shots and we weren’t. They built up a big enough lead to where we could never really get back in the game. It was a tough loss, but hopefully we can gain something from it,” Wilson said.

Olympus starter, Jake Lindsey, had a total of 34 points, adding five three-pointers of his own. Lambson lead Highland’s offensive attack, putting up 15 points for the Rams. Rick Schmidt followed suit, adding his own 14 points in favor of Highland. Although the Titans had a higher field goal percentage, the Rams capitalized at the line with a high free throw percentage of 78.6 percent.

Senior Spencer Moncur left last week’s game against Wasatch with a high ankle sprain, and a fractured fifth metatarsal bone. As such, the Rams are missed their starting point guard and a key defensive tool, however Moncur is expected to return in the next five to eight weeks.

The Rams hope to put this loss behind them, ready to work in preparation for the Olympus Tournament over Winter Break, as well as the beginning of the regular season, beginning the first week of January. Divver spoke on behalf of the whole team when they need to move on.

“Olympus was the better team. We have a lot to work on, but need to let go of the last two losses and focus on future games,” Divver said.
