Restaurant Review: Sushi Burrito on 8th

Eliza Burnett, Senior Editor

Are you craving fresh sushi, but need more than just one roll?  Or are you daring enough to combine aspects of a greasy burrito and sophisticated sushi?  Sushi Burrito on 8th masterfully combines the two differing types of food into a delicious sushi burrito.  The fresh fish, ripe produce and white rice is wrapped in seaweed and served burrito style.  This oversized sushi is just as tasty, if not better, than typical sushi restaurants found in the Salt Lake area.  In late February, Sushi Burrito on 8th opened their second location in Provo.

I was skeptical of the combination of a gooey, Latin American dish like the burrito and an Asian specialty like sushi.  Nevertheless, I ordered the Hamachi burrito, which included yellowtail with tobiko, avocado, lettuce, cucumber, corn, wasabi mayo, and eel sauce, all wrapped in seaweed.  The flavors were explosive and pleasing.  I could not get enough of my first sushi burrito.  However, I wish that the sushi burrito had some more burrito-like aspects.  The sushi burrito has an open bottom, unlike the traditional burrito.  This makes it very messy and tricky to eat toward the end.

Despite the restaurant’s small size and popularity, the service is quick and efficient.  After waiting in line for a good ten minutes, I received my food in about the same amount of time.  However, the seating is limited and can make take out the better option.  The creativity and deliciousness of Sushi Burrito on 8th is one that sushi and burrito lovers alike will enjoy.Sushi Burrito
