Making A Difference One Sandwich At A Time

Looking for an upbeat, hipster, and healthy place to grab a quick meal? Even Stevens is a trendy sandwich shop located down in Sugarhouse on the corner of 2000 South and 900 East. It’s a hidden gem among the many restaurants in the growing Sugarhouse area. The restaurant is not very large and has a truly authentic vibe. The inside has a blend of a cozy and artsy feel, with quotes and drawings covering the walls.

With a variety of sandwiches, soups, and salads, there is something on the menu for any sandwich lover. Everything is decently priced, with a full meal- sandwich and soup, chips, or salad- being around seven to eight dollars. The service is very quick and the workers are really friendly. The menu offers a very unique variety of sandwiches, different from what one might normally expect at a traditional sandwich shop. I was bold (by my standards) and ordered the Pot Roast Dip sandwich that consisted of turkey pot roast, Swiss cheese, red onion, jalapeno jelly, sourdough, and au ju. What might seem like an odd combination made a delicious meal. It was the perfect size and with a side salad I was satisfied but not too full.

The great food and atmosphere are not the only things that make this restaurant such a unique place though. Even Stevens’ motto is “Eat To Give” and they take pride in being a catalyst for real, sustainable change. For every sandwich that is purchased, Even Stevens donates fresh ingredients for a sandwich to a local non-profit organization. Essentially, every sandwich bought equals a sandwich donated…hence the name “Even” Stevens. The Sugarhouse location non-profit partners are St. Vincent de Paul and The Boys and Girls Club. There is also a downtown location, and they are partnered up with Rescue Mission of Salt Lake, YWCA, The VOA Homeless Youth Outreach, and The Good Samaritan Program.

The restaurant works with these organizations to ensure that locals in need are fed sustainable meals daily. The hope is that this restaurant chain can help encourage and spread a giving incentive throughout the community and they have already seen an immense amount of success. Even Stevens is open Monday through Thursday from 7am to 9pm, Friday and Saturday from 7am to 10pm, and Sundays from 10am to 3pm for brunch meals. Breakfast is served all days of the week.
