Highland had a disappointing home game against East on the hot Thursday afternoon of August the 30th. The rams lost to 2 to 1 in a game where they fought to the end. The first half was a battle for the first goal where East was on the attack forcing Highland to flex its defending muscle.

There were several attempts from East to score a goal and one particular goal was tackled by forward Tina Guard, that would otherwise have been a really close score attempt.

When half time came around the score was still 0 to 0. East made several more goal attempts which were blocked by Highland’s defense. Halfway into the second half of the game, East managed to score another goal.

In an attempt to re-possess the ball an East player got injured and had to be taken off the field before the game could continue. Highland put up a fight for the rest of the game defending against East and making them work for every inch toward the goal. There were several attempts from Highland to score a goal, yet they were either too off target or kicked too strong. Around the last ten minutes of the game, Highland was able to score a goal and for a few moments that brought momentum up.

“I think we are all super united,” Senior Marlena Ruhling said. “We need to just dial in our shots and keep them low and keep on our mark.”

The girls’ soccer team had won a big tournament at the beginning of the season and many of the players expressed how that gave the team momentum into the season. The previous Tuesday in a home game against Olympus, the rams had lost. For their future games, the team is focused on keeping their energy up and going in super merciless.
