This is part of dueling columns between Thirst and Swig. To read about Thirst, click here.
Utah, the home of national parks, world-class skiing, Sundance Film Festival, and Dirty Soda. As a soda lover, I often find myself in need of a quick, thirst-quenching fun drink on a hot summer day. Or on a cozy winter afternoon, fresh pretzel bites and warm pumpkin chocolate Chip cookies to quench a craving. No matter your preference, the Swig Soda shop experience provides endless delicious edibles and drinks, that tower over anything Thirst Drinks can offer.
Outshining Thirst, Swig offers superior drink mixes, gluten-free alternatives, seasonal products, and the overall price is cheaper.
Often driving past the Millcreek Swig location, you will see a line of 5-6 cars rapping around the parking lot, while Thirst (just a couple blocks further down the street) is found lone

ly and vacant.
Former Swig employee Julia Satterfield explains the Swig environment as “fun”, “welcoming”, and “fast paced”. She often found her shifts (especially on weekends) speeding by, thanks to the non-stop number of cars cycling through the drive-through.
“I would definitely recommend working there, but maybe not as your first job […] because of how fast paced it is right of the bat,” Satterfield said.
Satterfield’s comments prove just how popular Swig is in Utah, and that their staff is properly trained to get your orders out quickly and efficiently, while still creating amazingly delicious products that please consumers!
This past September, swig introduced five new fall products: four drinks and one cookie flavor. The classic cup of Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies consists of six mini cookies and sells at the price of $3.99. Thirst on the other hand, offers their Pumpkin cookies is a set of one ($3.49) or three ($9.00). While the Thirst cookies may technically be cheaper, the ratio of cookie to cost ultimately isn’t cheaper. From Swig, you are getting six cookies for 66 cents each, while Thirst offers one cookie for more than five times that. Yes, the Thirst cookie is larger (around 2.5 ounces), but six Swig cookies (1.2 ounces/each), makes up for the size difference.
Now, Swig lovers aren’t only found in Utah, you can locate one of these soda shops in 15 states across the nation. Utah, Texas, Missouri, Indiana, Arizona, Idaho, Florida, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Tennessee, North Carolina, Kansas, Kentucky, Nevada, and Louisiana are home to 140+ Swig locations. Which opposed to Thirst’s 8 locations, only in Utah, that is very impressive.
“Our most commonly ordered (drinks) are definitely the Texas Tab. Or the Founder,” Satterfield stated.
The “Texas Tab” (Dr. Pepper + Vanilla + Coconut Cream) and “The Founder” (Diet Coke + Sugar Free Coconut + Fresh Lime + Coconut Cream) are just two popular examples of the many drink mixes that Swig offers.
Personally, ordering the “Raspberry Dream,” which consists of crisp Dr. Pepper, raspberry puree, and coconut cream, will never disappoint. The sweet tartness of the Raspberry puree and the smooth texture of the Coconut cream, come together to form an unstoppable and delectable drink that consumers love! Thirst may provide a solid drink, but they never reach the standards of excellence that one’s palate demands.
A good soda shop offers a plethora of drink options, a variety of sweet drinks, and good quality products to tie it all together. Swig checks all these boxes while still providing a good experience with happy, well-trained Employees. A standard that no other soda shop has ever met, not even Thirst.
